2025年10月24日下午,西湖大学钱紘教授受邀莅临厦门大学,为师生带来题为“Neo-Gibbsian Statistical Energetics with Applications to Nonequilibrium Cells”的第202期萨本栋讲坛。本次讲座由物理科学与技术学院赵鸿教授主持。

讲座伊始,钱紘教授回溯吉布斯百年统计热力学的核心思路,指出这一经典框架在处理实际非平衡体系时仍然可以被重新解释和推广,从而形成他提出的“新吉布斯统计能量论”。他首先说明,在把玻尔兹曼常数视作趋零的极限后,可以直接导出一对互为对偶的变分公式,把我们熟悉的温度—能量—熵关系统一在同一套结构之下;进而,他将视角提升到介观尺度,强调当体系存在涨落时,统计自由能关于温度的导数会自然给出两类信息熵函数,为理解真实物理与生物体系的波动提供了更细致的工具;最后,钱教授构造了一个适用于非平衡态的“不可逆热力学势”ψ(T,E),用来刻画能量与温度不匹配所带来的不可逆性,并以处于恒温、恒压、恒化学势环境中的活细胞为例,展示该势函数如何把大规模细胞统计数据同内禀能量参数联系起来,为非平衡活体系统给出可度量的“距离”与能量诠释。
作为非平衡态统计力学的专家,钱紘教授用缜密的逻辑和极富感染力的语言,为物理学院师生奉献了一场非常精彩的学术报告,深入浅出地介绍了自己从数据科学的角度理解熵、能量等热力学概念的一些思考。在问答环节,钱紘教授一一解答了现场师生提出的问题,并在会后与现场的师生就科学问题和学术合作等进行了深入探讨。
主讲人简介:
Professor Hong Qian(钱紘教授) is currently a Chaired Professor at Westlake University, Hangzhou. He had been an Olga Jung Wan Endowed Professor of Applied Mathematics at University of Washington, Seattle. He received his B.A. in Astrophysics from Peking University and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Washington University in St. Louis (with E.L. Elson), and worked as postdoctoral researcher at Univ. of Oregon (with J.A. Schellman) and Caltech (with J.J. Hopfield) on biophysical Chemistry and Mathematical Biology. He was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society in 2010. Professor Qian’s current research interest is the probabilistic foundation of statistical equilibrium and nonequilibrium physics and their application to biology, physics, and data science. His recent, coauthored book “Stochastic Chemical Reaction Systems in Biology” was published by Springer in 2021.
