Brief Introduction

The College of Physical Science and Technology consists of the Department of Physics, the Department of Astronomy, and one university-level research institutes: The Research Institute of Soft Matter and Biomimetics. The School also hosts the Engineering Research Center for Micro/Nano Optoelectronic Materials and Devices of Ministry of Education and 2 ministerial research platforms and 12 provincial level, municipal level and university-level platforms.
The School has 1 state-key discipline (condensed matter physics), and offers 2 post-doctoral programs, 2 doctoral programs, 12 master programs, and 4 bachelor programs. Among the bachelor programs, the Physics program is a state-level characteristic program, the Electronic Information Science and Technology program has been selected in Ministry of Education’s outstanding engineer scheme and the Micro-electronics program is province-level characteristic program.

The School has 114 full time teachers, 85 of them have a title of a senior professional post, 93 with doctoral degree which accounts for 83% of teachers and 57 engineering and technical staff. Currently, the School has 1 academician, 5 National Distinguished Young Scholars, 8 New Century Scholars and 11 Minjiang Scholars. In 2015, the School recruited 7 full-time teachers (1 associate professor and 6 assistant professors), 6 technical staff, 13 postdoctoral researchers.

Since 2011, the school funding has reached 120 million yuan. The number of SCI, EI, ISTP paper increases rapidly year by year and the quality also improved. From 2011 to 2014, the School had 830 paper included by SCI, EI and ISTP and 100 of them were released in JCR Q1; 80 national patents (50 invention patents); 8 governmental technical awards.

The School has formed a thorough talent cultivating system from bachelor, master to doctor. At present, there are more than 1000 full-time students in School. To create a nice academic atmosphere, the School holds academic seminars and academic competitions from time to time. In 2015, the School won the third group award in Chinese College Students Physics Competition.

The School constantly improves career planning and development center for students. In 2015, employment rate for graduates was 97.1% and 95.1% for undergraduates. 29% of undergraduates got further education in China and 16.1% overseas.
